Stronger | Seattle Childrens Hospital
Monday, May 14, 2012 at 4:28PM I spent one long scary Christmas Eve at Seattle Childrens Hospital with my then 18 month old son and I think often of how that experience changed my perspective on life, children and family. I will never forget the staff and how amazing they were, how we wandered fearfully the vacant hallway behind the surgery wing late Christmas eve and when I ran into Santa and started to cry, how the nurse woke us up at 5 on Christmas morning with good news. The day had started off nornally however by mid afternoon my world was turned upside down.
At one point late in the evening after the hospital had settled down I went out to get something from the car and passed by the overflow parking lot which was full of RV's all decorated in christmas lights. I learned later that this is where the parents of long-term cancer patients stay while their children are receiving treatment. Everyone that night was so dedicated to helping the kids and making Christmas as normal as ever. To this day my son still carries around the stuffed Tigger that Santa put in his hospital crib that night. Thank You Seattle Childrens - you are a special place.
Warning, this may make you cry.
