Last summer, amidst the pandemic, GUNNAR launched their first pair of blue light glasses for kids and teens.  We had the expertise in developing blue light blocking glasses for adults and now the responsibility to protect young eyes, as research started coming out about how kids’ vision is most at risk from myopia and digital eye strain symptoms as their digital screen use increased.  Timing couldn’t have been more perfect as families had to hunker down together. Screen time, and especially screen time for kids, was on the rise as they started working and schooling from home, binge-watching shows, discovering new content creators to follow online and playing video games.

It is with a great deal of luck that GUNNAR was one of those companies that had a good year last year.  Our industry leading gaming and computer glasses were needed more than ever as people’s habits had to rapidly change.  It was an act of grace in a way, that we found ourselves in the position at the end of last year to finally be able to give back in a more meaningful way than before. That is when the seed of an idea was planted to partner with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® to support its mission: Finding cures. Saving children®.  Personally, I was well aware of St. Jude for years because of their annual St. Jude PLAY LIVE fundraising event which always garners an incredible amount of support from the gaming and content creation community.  As the #1 in gaming, it made complete sense for GUNNAR too, particularly as our focus on protecting the eyes of gamers had finally expanded to kids and teens.

In April we officially announced our partnership with St. Jude and kicked off a yearlong program of fundraising, which, at the simplest level, includes an add-on donation option at check out and a soon to be launched ‘round-up’ option too.  It’s amazing how those small one or two cent donations add up!  We are also embarking on some internal staff fundraising initiatives.

Today we announced the first of two limited edition ‘Collection for St. Jude’ initiatives:

  • Get a limited-edition ‘Collection for St. Jude’ adult or kids glasses case for FREE with purchase, when you add a $5 donation at checkout (100% goes to St. Jude).

Looking forward to early summer, we will be launching a limited-edition version of adult blue light glasses, Vertex, and the popular kid’s glasses, Cruz 12+:

  • Limited-edition ‘Collection for St. Jude’ glasses designed for adults and kids (50% of the sales goes directly to St. Jude).
